Capacity building in Bangladesh for sustainable management of coastal natural resources in a changing climate

(INSPIRE programme of British Council, 3 years 2010 onwards)

A partnership with Bangladesh Agricultural University and Independent University Bangladesh, this project aims to enhance cross-disciplinary understanding and expertise in adjustment to a changing environment (due to climate change and other factors) for the coastal zone of Bangladesh. This is expected to improve future management of natural resources in coastal floodplains and ultimately the livelihoods of a large population of poor people vulnerable to climate change and associated hazards.

Through academic linkages at faculty and graduate student levels and research capacity building, particularly by involving and supporting a coordinated set of Master’s level student research, the project will:

  1. research climate change impacts and adaptations for livelihoods, environment and fisheries in the coastal zone, and
  2. mainstream climate change into existing courses and teaching.
