Adapting Natural Resource Management to Climate Change and Increasing Salinity

(Shiree programme (DFID supported), 3 years, 2009 onwards).

The project aims to lift at least 1,000 rural households in Satkhira, Jessore and Barguna out of extreme poverty by 2012 through innovations that restore the productivity of floodplain natural resources and are better adapted to climate change.
The project is led by Shushilan, FHRC provides technical advice and is responsible for baseline and impact surveys, participatory planning, and land rights negotiation.

Baseline household surveys have been undertaken, and FHRC is particularly involved in advising on enhancements to resource productivity that target the extreme poor in Barguna. One aspect of this involves facilitating the poor to lease land for dry season cultivation that was previously fallow and test cultivation of low water demand crops.
